Changes to the list of english language tests

October 7, 2011

This week, UKBA released their changes to the list of approved English language test providers for applications made under Tiers 1, 2 and 4 of the points-based system and for spouse or partner applications.

When you apply for a visa in an immigration category that requires you to demonstrate your English language ability, you must show that you have passed an appropriate test on the list.

The amendments include:

  • three tests awarded by Cambridge ESOL now offer certification at 3 levels of the Common European Framework rather than just 2 levels. The tests include the Cambridge English: Key, Cambridge English: Preliminary and Cambridge English: Business Preliminary
  • the Educational Testing Service (ETS) have updated their web address for their test of English for international communication (TOEIC) and test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL)
  • Pearson have updated their contact details and clarified that they do not issue paper certificates
  • separate certificate and notification of candidate results sheet are required for the speaking part of the City and Guilds English language test

You can download the revised list from UKBA”s site here.

Please be aware that failure to meet the English language requirements for your category or to obtain the qualification from an approved provider, could lead to a refusal of your visa application.  Newland Chase can provide a specialist service to assist you in locating an approved provider.  For further details, please contact us.
