CHINA: New Year celebrations may affect visa processing times

January 22, 2013

The Chinese New Year, or “Spring Festival” as it is traditionally known, begins with celebrations in China on New Year”s Eve, Saturday the 9th February 2013, which will conclude on the 15th February 2013.

Public holidays will be observed in China during this period and Chinese consulates across the world are expected to close temporarily.  The Chinese Embassy in the UK will be closed from the 11th to 13th February 2013 inclusive.

Companies who wish to transfer assignees to China should note that work and residence permit applications may well be delayed across the holiday period.  Any planned applications should be submitted as soon as possible to avoid delays to work start dates.
