MALAYSIA: i-Pass MDeC submissions

October 31, 2013

Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) i-Pass applications, which used to be submitted directly to the Malaysian Immigration Department, must now be submitted to the Immigration Unit wihtin the MDeC itself.

The MDeC is a government sponsored initiative established to support the Malaysian special economic zone, known as the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), in facilitating Employment Passes. The MDeC i-Pass is a form of identification which allows MSC foreign employees to forgo carrying their original passports for identification purposes within the Malaysian peninsula.

While official MDeC guidance on the new submission procedure and requirements have yet to be released, the change will likely increase the estimated processing time for the immediate future.

If you are an MSC employer, foreign employee, or wish to register with the MDeC and wish to learn more about these changes and how they may affect you, please contact us.
