NETHERLANDS: Delays to Processing of Knowledge Migrant Residence Permits

November 16, 2012

Employers in the Netherlands have been advised to expect delays to Knowledge Migrant residence permit decisions.

The Immigration and Naturalisation Department (IND) has indicated that these delays are due to implementation problems with the new online application system.  Consequently, applications are currently taking approximately six weeks to be processed, rather than the usual 4-5 weeks processing time.

The Knowledge Migrant program was established to attract highly skilled non-EEA professionals to work and live in the Netherlands through its relatively simple requirements and expedited processing of work permit applications by the Immigration Department”s Desk for Knowledge and Labour Migration.

We have been advised that the IND is working to resolve the current issues as quickly as possible, but backlogs are expected to continue until the end of 2012.

All employers who are considering lodging Knowledge Migrant residence permit applications over the next couple of months should ensure that they do so as soon as possible, to avoid any delays to anticipated employee start dates.
