UKBA website set to move all content to www.gov.uk

On-going plans to move all government services to one online portal will see information and services related to visas and immigration move from the current website www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk to www.gov.uk/visas-immigration. All content is set to be transferred to gov.uk by the beginning of March, and the UKBA website will be gradually shut down. Users attempting to access the UKBA website will be automatically redirected to the relevant gov.uk section or if the requested page is no longer in existence, will be redirected to the archived page at the National Archives.
The new website aims to make accessing government services faster, simpler and more centralised. Each new webpage on gov.uk includes a link enabling users to provide feedback and report errors and issues. It is hoped that the transition will be somewhat smoother than that for the Visa4UK website, used for those applying for UK visas from outside the UK, which recently underwent a similar overhaul. Although user-friendliness did increase, the change was fraught with technical issues and regular suspension of services whilst the software was introduced, updated and teething issues with the site ironed out.
It is to be expected that some adjustments will be made dependent on user feedback. Although not all content has yet been transferred to gov.uk, almost all information regarding immigration under the Points Based System is now available and easy to navigate.
