UKRAINE: New Biometric Entry Procedures Introduced

January 3, 2018

Effective 1st January 2018, Ukraine has introduced a system of biometric border control for nationals of 70 countries, including Russians, entering the country via international ports of entry. The new system is expected to cause some delays for affected travellers.

The new border controls which include requiring biometric passports and fingerprint verification, are compulsory for nationals of the 70 “countries of migration risk” but may also be applied to nationals of other countries.

Further planned border control measures, which have not yet been introduced, include compulsory electronic pre-notification of visits and address registration after arrival.

Our Advice

Companies should warn any foreign national employees travelling to Ukraine about the new border controls and possible delays.
