US: Hardware Failure at Department of State Causes Visa Backlog

June 17, 2015

Visa applications to the United States submitted around the 9th June 2015 are likely to be delayed as the US Department of State (DOS) has been experiencing technical difficulties with their hardware.

The IT failure stopped biometric requests from being updated onto the Consular Consolidated Database (CCD). Unfortunately this step is essential to the legal security requirement for a visa application consequently there is an increasingly large backlog of visas waiting to be printed.

Although the DOS team is working hard to correct the fault there is still no news as to when the system will be fully operational. This comes further to the severe delays still being experienced by the UK Consulate in New York for priority visas for applicants from the US applying to the UK.
